Kickstarter Success - What Does it Mean for the Future?

The Kickstarter for the On Barren Ground Limited Edition has more than doubled our funding goal and reached the 50 backer stretch goal.

I'm so excited for a few reasons. The 50 backers means I'll be sharing my memoir of short stories with every backer, no matter what format they chose. Even the e-book backers will receive the first edition release of The Farmer's Wife memoir e-book—I better plan a cover soon...

The other reason to be excited it we reached 15 hardback orders. I know this doesn't sound like a lot, but to me it's a clear indicator that there is a place for special edition hardbacks in my future release range.

I've been planning some really special limited edition books, but wasn't sure if anyone would be interested. I promise, I won't use Kickstarter next time, or at least not solely. Any future special editions will be available directly from my website - world wide.

On that note—did you know I can print and ship paperbacks everywhere? You can order a paperback here, on the site and I'll get it shipped directly from the printer in the UK, US, Canada, Australia to almost anywhere. At this stage only Australian and NZ deliveries will be signed, but who knows what the future holds.

You might be wondering why I'm so focussed on physical books right now. Well, apart from the limited edition hardbacks and direct shipping of paperbacks, I got a bit of a wake up call.

Amazon recently banned one of my e-books. They simply decided it was a copy of another book in my catalogue and took it down. I'm working hard to get it back up now, and once I do, I'll be taking it out of Kindle Unlimited.

In fact, I'll be slowly taking all my books out of Kindle Unlimited and bringing them into my own website to sell directly, along with making them available through other retailers like Apple, Kobo etc.

If you buy in Kindle, don't panic, I'll still offer my books on Amazon. In addition, I'll ensure that every release goes into Kindle Unlimited (the subscription model) for 3 months before going to other retailers. Because the window to read will be short, I suggest KU readers follow me on Amazon, or join my reader's club to make sure you don't miss a release.

For now, there are a few days left to get your hands on the Limited Edition Hardback copy of On Barren Ground. I'm about 20% into the first draft, so well ahead of schedule to deliver in November. But be quick, there are only 5 days left.
